What's in the kitchen sink today?Welcome to the Wikileaks world. The world from this point forward will come to be known as the world before Wikileaks and after Wikileaks. It will become the carbon dating line from which future history will be measured.
Wikileaks is a website put up by a computer/math wiz named Julian Assange four years ago, with the intention of creating a new medium in journalism known as Scientific Journalism.
It is the first in what are sure to be a long line of Scientific Journalistic sites, but the adjustment into the Era of Scientific Journalism could be a little rough. What is so significant about this news medium? Is that the reporting can only be based on actual material evidence, documents, files and video which is verifiable and viewable online by viewers.
No more news based on highly questionable polls and well dispensed talking points. Just the facts mam’.
The mostly meaningless jibberish that passes for news in this day and age is about to become a thing of the past.
So why all the ruckus over Jullian Assange and Wikileaks? Well it turns out that the Way that Wikileaks collects it’s scientific data upon which to base this new brand of journalism, is through a web-based "dead-letterbox" for would-be leakers or whistle blowers.
"[To] keep our sources safe, we have had to spread assets, encrypt everything, and move telecommunications and people around the world to activate protective laws in different national jurisdictions," Mr Assange said in an interview with the BBC earlier this year.
And so as it goes, if you build it, they will come, and come they have… the “dead letter box” designed to receive any amount of information that any whistle blower may want to reveal, has indeed received tremendous amounts of documents of public interest from the highest echelons of power, which reveal a picture of a world no longer defined by sovereign nations but by mega-banks and multi-national corporations and the access which they have through a cloak and dagger system to use Ours-the most powerful military and advanced communications systems in the world to bully everyone else around, start secrets wars, kidnap people and torture them… oh the brutal things that go on behind our backs and in our name!
Needless to say, the corporate media and the power structure erected to protect those cloak and dagger ways are not sitting well with the new medium of Scientific Journalism or it’s founder, Mr. Assanage whom is now in British custody and dealing with potentially trumped up charges although as of today none has been filed, is being held on an international warrant for “questioning” in regards to two broken condoms. While it is comforting to know that the international community is taking safe sex so seriously these days, the timing does seem a bit questionable since the issue was originally dropped after a one day investigation back in August but was reignited after Wikileaks started releasing diplomatic cables from American embassies all over the world.
In addition to the diplomatic cables, Mr. Assange has forewarned that his next cache of leaked documents could bring down one of the major banks…and that did it… since then, the heat has been turned up on the Scientific Journalism site and it’s founder considerably, in addition to the questionable charges and arrest, Mr. Assange has had his bank account frozen, his services discontinued by Amazon, Pay-Pal, Visa, Mastercard, as well as numerous calls for his assassination by extremists in the U.S. political arena. And all without any charges being filed against him anywhere. The leader of the opposing pressure being placed upon companies to discontinue all services to Wikileaks and it’s founder has been Sen. Joe Liberman…ole droopy dog himself…call him Mr. Cloak and Dagger.
The important connection to make in the significance of Wikileaks and Scientific Journalism is that, the brutal and horrible things that go on behind our backs are only possible because we don’t have a free media, the founders knew that, it’s why they made such a point of it, but the free media was dissolved with the removal of regulations by Reagan back in the 80’s and the major consolidation of media since.
However, do what they want to Jullian Assange, the medium of Scientific Journalism isn’t going to go anywhere, it’s the toothpaste that won’t go back into the tube.
Governments are going to have to start getting used to doing business in the light of day…
Already, there are dissenters within the Wikileaks camp who are starting a new competing site called Openleaks as well as a half dozen, or so other upstarts out there attempting to duplicate the format of Wikileaks.
There is an additional new word for your vocabulary that goes along with this new chapter of history, you might enjoy this one, I did… Hacktivists. Hacktivists are the new cyber activists who proclaim a battle against censorship and for free speech, fighting a war of ideologies in cyberspace by launching cyber attacks toward any group or business which they see as imposing on these principles, and at the moment that means any company or persons they see as being against Wikileaks. The group claiming responsibility for the retaliations against the numerous businesses, which recently severed their services to WL has been a group calling themselves Anonymous. Their attacks have included Visa.com and Pay-Pal as well as Joe Liberman and other rightwing extremists whom have called for the assassination of Mr. Assange, knocking their sites down for several hours.
And so in a global world where sovereign nations are seen by global companies and banking institutions as nothing more than jurisdictions to be bought and sold, bullied and pillaged… a new type of global opposition has arisen, an opposition that is not defined by borders or nationalities, but by ideologies and the battle for information.
The revolution may not be televised, but it is alive and in a duel to the death on the internet.
